Artist's Comments

Arranged comments in this version

[...] Disproportionately tall and thin to grotesque extremes, Mask sat in a throne equally extravagant with all the aspect of a puppet, his limbs dispersed here and there in capricious
poses. All the room had an ominose and melancholic feeling, of abandon and decadency. Threadbare tapestries with unknown pictures decorated the wood walls and a dust layer was everywhere. [...]

At the opposite end of the room, separated from the floor by a platform, was the throne of Mask,
twisted and amorphous, like a parody of a real one. The windows have been sealed and secured with wood panels, so the only light came from a pale lanterns hidden in the walls' bases, that deformed the features and cast threaten and monstruous shadows.

A perfect stage, thought the fighter, worthy of his Highness.

The truth was that Mask himself had chosen that place as his audience room and he behaved there as if he was the main actor in a theatre's play [...]

Creature, being... The mercenary didn't know how to define him, but he was absolutely sure that he wasn't remotely human, with that horribly thin and fragile at first sight body and that androginous aparience. His black vestment seemed more like a second skin that ordinary clothes, and seemed to melt with his feet because he wore no boots, and his head, completed with two weird appendices that fall over his back like a jester's cap. His dark monotony was only interrupted for some white leather gloves that confused the real size of his hands and, naturally, that ivory mask that gave him name and was mastery engraved with a expression of mockery despite Daverein was sure that he had seen it changing the features at times, probably because the room's weird light. (It was a pain to actually translate this text... :cries: )

This text is from one of our roleplaying campaigns and is written by my boyfriend, I just did the pic :) Shaliara, my player character met this... thingy person. And preety sure she wouldn't like to meet him again.

I couldn't translate the text exactly to English (but it is very accurate I think), I'm sorry, but there are words that I don't know how to translate or doesn't have an equivalent in English :P

Mask/Lord Shade can control shadows. From adjusting the light on a room to jump from a shadow to another one. It seems like he absorbs light. His body can be twisted as he likes so, making him to seem more grotesque or a more normal person.
His gloves allow him to touch things without absorbing their life force.
And I think I don't have to told you that he is not a nice person... :P

On WIP version and idea...

It's just done in OpenCanvas with the WACOM tablet, and an sketch that is pending of colour :).
I wanted to do something like a theatre's scene. Those things in the background are the tapestries. The throne... is twisted, I did it without actually thinking, it was better  I don't know... maybe I'll add some corpses in the background (looks so empty) but maybe that would be too grotesque, dunno... :P But, well, my intention is to make it grotesque :D

Time spent: 30 mins :)

-----------------------------

On FINAL and colouring...

It was a pain to do this colouring :cries:. My hand still hurts. I want to improve at colouring so I have to practice more and more :D. I'm not very good now...

I'm not quite satisfied with the floor. I added some blood stains, to make it a little bit better... :)

I changed the throne a little. I like more this new version. :)

As I said I wanted to make a scary and grotesque background. Those shadows are corpses I think he has killed. I hope I have gotten it! Comments and constructive criticism on colouring and anything is welcome :)

Time spent: 9 hours or so... in two days :)

Did you read all the way through here?
First: Thanks! :D
Second: You have quite a lot of patience!

Yay, a cookie!

This is... absolutely gorgeous. The mood is very creepy, even without reading the description. I really like the throne, the patchwork of animal legs, and how it curves with him.

He looks so... playfully sinister. Again, wonderful job. :+fav:

At one point in their life everyone has to face the idea that their life is purposeless. What they don't know is that this is the first step to making their life meaningful.
